Companies House Verification

Companies House Director Verification – What You Need to Know Before November 2025

From 18th November 2025, a major change comes into force that will affect all company directors in the UK. It will become a legal requirement for directors to verify their identity with Companies House. This new rule is part of a wider government drive to combat fraud and improve the integrity of UK companies.

But it’s not just a box-ticking exercise – failure to verify is a criminal offence. If directors do not complete the process in time:

  • They could face fines or disqualification
  • The company itself may even be struck off

That’s why it’s important to act now and avoid a last-minute rush.

Why Has This Change Been Introduced?

In recent years, there has been a growing problem with fraudulent companies being set up purely to commit crime. The government’s response is to make sure every director is verified and traceable, helping protect businesses, customers, and the wider economy.

For most directors, the process will be straightforward – but leaving it until the deadline could risk delays.

How Do You Verify Your Identity?

There are three ways to complete your verification:

  1. Via a One.Gov account
    • You’ll receive an email from Companies House explaining how to set up an account.
    • If you don’t get the email, you can check directly on the Companies House website.
    • This method is free.
  2. Via the Post Office
    • This option only becomes available if your online verification fails.
    • If that happens, you’ll be prompted to complete the check at a participating Post Office.
    • This method is also free.
  3. Via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)
    • You can ask a professional firm, such as Richardson Swift, to carry out the checks for you.
    • We charge a small fee of £10 + VAT per person.
    • This is the easiest option if you’d rather not deal with the online process yourself.

Why Act Now?

Although the deadline isn’t until November 2025, we strongly recommend getting verified sooner rather than later. Leaving it to the last minute could mean long delays, particularly if large numbers of directors try to register at once.

By acting early, you’ll ensure your company stays compliant and avoid the stress of being caught out.
